CONWAY, Ark. _ The University of Central Arkansas men's golf team has added Oliver Baker to its roster, according to director of golf Ryke Dismuke.
Baker, from Cardiff, Wales, is a product of the Ridgeway Golf Club Academy run by UCA Coach Richard Johnson's father Peter. During the 2010 season, Baker won the North Wales Boys stroke play championship before becoming the Welsh Boy's Champion at the prestigious Pyle and Kenfig Golf Club in Wales.
"Oliver is an extremely talented and technically sound player that works extremely hard and is not afraid to score low and win golf tournaments,' Dismuke said. "Oliver hits the ball extremely long distances and will be a very important piece of our program for the next four years. We are excited to have him come to Conway, Ark., to be a part of our team.'
Johnson, who joined the UCA coaching staff last summer after a professional playing career, said Baker's background should serve him well in collegiate golf.
"Being a past Champion of the Welsh Boys, I know the level of golf required to win and the confidence it gave me to move forward in my career as a touring professional,' he said. "I am sure Oli will be a great asset to our program as we look to have a significant impact on Division I golf.'
