THIBODAUX, La. - The University of Central Arkansas volleyball team swept Nicholls at Stopher Gym on Thursday night. With the 25-21, 25-22, 25-18 victory and UTSA losing to Texas State, the Sugar Bears (25-7, 14-1) took control of first place in the Southland Conference with one match to play. UCA needs a win on Saturday at last place Southeastern Louisiana to claim their second consecutive outright title and the top seed in next week's Southland Conference Tournament in Huntsville, Texas.
The Sugar Bears outhit the Colonels (13-15, 5-10) .279 to .190 and had 48 kills, compared to NSU's 31.
Junior outside hitter Jessica Hays recorded her 14th double-double of the season with 16 kills and 10 digs. Senior Chloe Smith also had 15 kills and hit .361 with eight digs. Sophomore Taylor Hammonds hit .438 with eight kills and freshman Jessica Nagy added seven kills and three aces. Junior libero Cristin Curl led all players with 16 digs and freshman setter Marissa Collins had 41 assists and nine digs.
Jessica Addicks led Nicholls with 10 kills and hit .476. Danielle Daigle recorded 14 digs and Jordan Karst had 28 assists.
