SOFTBALL ENDS FALL WITH SPLIT

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The University of Central Arkansas split their final two games of the fall season in Springfield, Mo. on Saturday. The Bears defeated host Missouri State 7-2, then lost to Tulsa 2-0 in the nightcap. UCA completed the fall schedule with a 7-1 record.

Against MSU, sophomore pitcher Kelsie Armstrong earned the win by striking out six and allowing two hits over five innings. Junior Cami Newsome allowed two runs and two hits in one inning.

Junior left fielder Nicole Beals led the Bear offense with three hits and three runs batted in. Sophomore Candice Gauntt had three hits and freshman Kelvon Greer and senior Shayleen Ristau had two hits each.

Against the Golden Hurricane, juniors Newsome, Cassidy Rash and Kelley Martino combined to give up eight hits. Junior first baseman Kasey Britt recorded two hits.

UCA will kick off the 2011 season on Feb. 10 with a home double-header against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
