BEARS, COWGIRLS DUEL TO DRAW

Kristin Pollard had five shots on goal for the Bears in Friday's tie.
CONWAY — Despite a more aggressive attack and several scoring opportunities, Central Arkansas couldn't find a game-winning goal while keeping McNeese State in check and battled the Cowgirls to a 1-1 tie on Friday.

The Bears (5-7-3, 1-3-2 Southland) ended with eight shots on goal – their highest in Southland Conference play – but a good effort from from McNeese State goalkeeper Katie Seeber ensured that all but one stayed out of the net.

UCA got on the board first in the 20th minute on junior defender Julie Foerster's free kick from just beyond the 18-yard box. It was the second goal in as many games for Foerster, who had the game-winner against Northwestern State last Sunday.

The Cowgirls (4-10-3, 1-3-3) answered back just 46 seconds later as Audrey LaLanne tapped the ball to Johna Germany as she passed by the last line of the UCA defense. Germany got loose on the breakaway and took advantage of the one-on-one situation, knocking the game-tying goal into the lower right side of the goal.

Neither team scored again, though both had a handful of narrow misses with shots hitting off posts and sailing just wide. UCA goalkeeper Kelsey Gochnauer made two saves and interrupted several other McNeese possessions inside the box, and Seeber recorded seven saves on prime scoring chances for the Bears.

UCA had five shots in the overtime periods and kept McNeese from recording any.

In addition to Foerster's goal, Kristin Pollard finished with seven shots for UCA, putting five on frame. Marissa Hicks and Brittany Kemper also recorded shots on goal for the Bears. The Cowgirls had two shots on goal from Germany and one from Lindsey Zwahr.

UCA had eight corner kicks while limiting McNeese to none.

The Bears will play their final home game of the season against Lamar on Sunday for Senior Day. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
