Central Arkansas' Julie Foerster has been named the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Foerster, a junior defender from Little Rock, scored the Bears' game-winning goal in Sunday's victory over Northwestern State – the first Southland win for UCA this season – on a free kick from 35 yards out. It was one of only three shots taken by the Bears and the team's only shot on goal. She played the entire 90 minutes and helped lead the UCA defense to its fifth shutout of the season and first in league play.
Foerster's goal was her first of the year and third of her career at UCA. This is her second honor from the league, having also won the Defensive Player of the Week award on Sept. 1, 2009. It is the first award for the Bears this season.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kelsey Gochnauer was honorable mention for Goalkeeper of the Week after recording her UCA record-tying fifth shutout of the season.
UCA will host McNeese State on Friday at 3:30 and Lamar on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Bears' final weekend at home this season.
