LAKE CHARLES, La. - The University of Central Arkansas volleyball team extended the longest conference winning streak in the nation by defeating McNeese State in four sets at Memorial Gym on Saturday afternoon. The Sugar Bears (19-6, 9-0) topped the Cowgirls (8-15, 2-6) 23-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-23 for their 31st consecutive Southland victory, dating back to 2008.
UCA outhit MSU .250 to .114 and had a 57-49 kills advantage. The Sugar Bears had a big day at the net, coming up with 11 blocks.
Junior outside hitter Jessica Hays recorded her 11th double-double of the season with 18 kills and 15 digs to go with three aces. Senior right side Chloe Smith had 15 kills and six blocks. The middle blocker tandem of Taylor Hammonds and Jessica Nagy combined for 15 kills and nine blocks. Junior libero Cirstin Curl led all players with 21 digs and senior Chloe Evans had nine. Freshman setter Marissa Collins assisted 51 kills.
The Cowgirls were led by Priscilla Massengale's 11 kills, while Nicole Bowden added 10. Becky Bekelja had 45 assists and 11 digs and Katie Kennedy had 20 digs.
UCA will play their last non-conference match of the season at Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Tuesday night.
