SAN ANTONIO — For the second straight game, Central Arkansas was unable to get the ball in the net and suffered a 3-0 setback to UTSA in Southland Conference play on Sunday.
Two days after being blanked by Texas State, the Bears (4-7-2, 0-3-1 Southland) were shut out by the Roadrunners (8-5, 3-0) for the fifth straight year.
UTSA took the lead in the 35th minute on the first of two goals from Lindsay South, a 25-yarder over the head of UCA goalkeeper Kelsey Gochnauer. Less than a minute later, the lead doubled when Allison Dillon tapped one in from inside the penalty box.
The Roadrunners added one more goal in the 78th minute, with South getting her second goal of the day and fifth of the season.
UCA had eight shots with just one on goal, a shot from Kristin Pollard that was saved by UTSA keeper Dacia Webb in the first half. UTSA attempted 18 shots, putting eight on frame. South had three and five other Roadrunners each had one.
The Bears' defense faced seven corner kicks by UTSA, while UCA generated two on the other end.
Gochnauer had five saves in the loss, giving her a league-high 30 through four conference games.
The Bears will return to action next Sunday against Northwestern State in Conway. It will be the first of three straight home games for UCA – their final three of the season. They will host McNeese State and Lamar on the 22nd and 24th before finishing up the regular season on the road at Southeastern Louisiana and Nicholls.
