After the completion of his 3rd year with UCA, Josey Weaver has built the UCA Cross Country / Track & Field program to new heights. The Bears just enjoyed a historic year by sweeping the men's and women's ASUN Indoor & Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Weaver has now brought home four team titles in his third year as the men’s and women’s Director of Cross Country/Track & Field at the University of Central Arkansas.

During his three seasons at UCA Weaver's program has enjoyed a tremendous amount of success. Weaver's Bears have broken an astonishing 37 school records, 25 Individual Conference Champions, 77 All-Conference performances, 10 USATF U20 Qualifiers, 25 NCAA 1st round qualifiers, 5 NCAA qualifiers & 4 Team Championships. His appointment at UCA officially ended a 6-year affiliation with East Carolina University, where he was the head cross country coach. Weaver built the ECU cross country team from the bottom of the American Athletic conference to a championship contending team before departing for Central Arkansas.

During the Cross Country/Indoor/Outdoor seasons at ECU, Weaver’s athletes enjoyed a lot of success. Weaver’s group has posted 23 all-conference performances in his time with the program (8-XC, 6-Indoor, 9-Outdoor). Along with that, his group broke 12 school records, added 84 new Top-10 All-Time performances, qualified 4 individuals to the NCAA East Prelims, and most notably qualified Stefano Migliorati to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. where he finished 20th in the nation.

As athletic excellence is important, Weaver pushes his teams to succeed in the classroom as well. In his time at ECU, Weaver has coached three ECU Student-Athletes of the Year (Pol Solanelles 2017 & Stefano Migliorati 2018 & Grace Sullivan 2019) Under Weaver’s guidance the Men’s & Women’s Cross Country teams have enjoyed the highest GPA honors in program history.

Weaver came to ECU off of a two-year stint as the cross country coach at Butler Community College in El Dorado, KS, where he mentored the distance runners and pole-vault athletes. He was responsible for producing 14 All-American selections in 16 events, 42 All-Region honorees, 26 national event qualifiers and 12 regional champions, as well as a two-time national runner up in the pole vault. In 2015, Weaver was named the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Central Region Coach of the Year for women's cross country as well as the Region VI Coach of the Year. Three of his pole-vaulters were ranked in the top six nationally.

Weaver helped Butler to a third place national outdoor championship finish on the men's side while guiding the women to a ninth place finish. The men also won both the indoor and outdoor conference and Region VI titles. In cross country, the Grizzlies captured the 2014, 2015, 2016 men's and women's conference titles while the women won the Region VI crown as well in 2015.

The year prior to his time at Butler, Weaver served as an assistant indoor and outdoor coach at Polk (N.C.) High School where he coached the mid to long distance runners and pole vaulters.

Weaver hails from Weaverville, N.C. where he attended Madison High School before attending and competing for Western Carolina University. He was a three-time high school State Champion (3200m, XC, PV). As a student-athlete at Western Carolina University, Weaver set school records in the 5K 14:31 (indoors) and in cross country 24:16 (8K). He earned a trio of All-Southern Conference honors. Weaver was also an Academic All-American all four years of his collegiate career.

In addition to his coaching experience, Weaver worked as Instructor of Health and Physical Education at West Buncombe Elementary (2013-14) and North Buncombe Elementary (2014). He owns USA Track and Field Level I certification as well as certification by the USTFCCCA. Weaver is a certified USTFCCCA Cross Country Specialist. Weaver earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education from Western Carolina in 2012 before completing requirements for a Master of Arts in education from WCU in 2014.
