Grey Howard joined the Bears as an assistant coach for the distance events on July 1, 2020. Howard served as a volunteer assistant coach for Central Arkansas in the summer of 2019 and from January of 2020 until being hired as a full-time assistant.

Before coming to Central Arkansas, Howard served as a volunteer assistant coach for the University of Tulsa Golden Hurricane cross country teams in his final semester of graduate school. In his lone semester as a volunteer, the Golden Hurricane men placed 5th at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, while the women placed 25th, both of which were school-record finishes.

While earning an M.B.A. and a B.S. in Psychology, Howard competed for the University of Tulsa Golden Hurricane from 2014-2019 under the tutelage of Steven Gulley, Taylor Gulley, and Clif Mitchell. Howard focused his efforts on the 800m and the 4x400 relay and left Tulsa as the third-fastest 800m runner in school history (1:48.46) and on the second fastest 4x400 meter relay (3:10.87) in school history. Howard twice qualified for the preliminary rounds of the NCAA Outdoor Track Championships in the 80m. Howard also held the school records in the 600m the 600yd at the time of his graduation.

For most of his childhood Howard wanted to be a coach, drawing inspiration from his grandfather who coached track in West Texas for decades, and from his high school coach David Sammons, an Oklahoma High School Hall of Fame coach. Howard split much of his childhood between Edmond, Oklahoma and Amarillo, Texas where his family is still located. He is married to Stacey Howard and is a member of The Summit Church in Conway.
