Alma Mater: M.S. - University of Central Arkansas ’17
B.S Ed. – Central Connecticut State University ’15
Experience: 2 Years (1st year at UCA)
History: Budd came from Central Connecticut State University where he graduated with his degree in Physical Education. At CCSU he was a 5 year track and field athlete that had some success in the long sprints and hurdles. By the time of his graduation he had been a part of three conference championship teams, two of which were first’s in school history. He rewrote an indoor 4x400m relay record; was a captain for two years as well All Conference in the 400m hurdles. He is the only athlete to be a part of all three Track and Field Championship teams, and the only athlete that competed on both the indoor and outdoor championship teams that were first’s in the school’s history. At UCA he will coach the multi-event athletes as well as the vaulters.
Budd’s first coaching experience was a World Master’s Athlete that represented USA in Sacramento, California in 2011 at the World Master’s Championship. His World Master’s athlete took 6th in the finals of the 300m hurdles being the oldest in his age group at 74 years old. In March of 2015 Budd was the Assistant Track Coach at Pomperaug High School, where he coached, the hurdles and pole vault. While at Pomperaug one school record was broken in the hurdles. The team had a very successful season where they had their best dual meet record in years, finishing with 10 wins and 3 losses.
Philosophy: Being a college athlete is difficult, and to be a great one, even harder. Less than 1% of the world’s population are college athletes. That statistic by itself shows that a collegiate athlete is unique, abnormal, an outlier and most of all special. To get to this point takes a lot of sacrifice, determination and hard work; I expect all of these traits from my athletes. It is my responsibility as a coach to make the athlete’s experience be successful and exciting; not just on the track but off it as well. Your success is often a reflection of who are. Stay humble and work hard in times of glory; stay motivated and don’t give up when things get difficult.
