Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Constitution and Bylaws
Article I (Mission Statement)
To faithfully, honestly, and respectfully represent the athletes of the University of Central Arkansas to the administration of UCA, and to add to the well-being of the community through community service.
Article II (Purpose)
To streamline and promote efficient communication between the UCA Athletic Department Administration and the student-athlete population
To actively encourage more involvement of the student-athletes in campus and community projects.
To provide the student athlete population with an opportunity to more effectively provide suggestions on programs designed to serve their needs.
Article III (Membership)
Each team shall designate two academically eligible members to present at meetings in order to vote and debate topics. Each member will serve as a representative of their team and a liaison between the SAAC and their respective teams.
Representatives should be volunteers from each sport and approved by the head coach
In the case that there are less than two volunteers then the head coach shall appoint members to the remaining positions.
Members will serve no longer than a three-year term beginning at the start of each academic year.
Article IV (Meetings)
Meetings will be held on the first Sunday of every month at 8 p.m. from September to May. If the first Sunday falls during a school break then the meeting will take place on the first Sunday after classes resume.
Additional meetings can be called by any representative with the approval of a simple majority of the officers.
Any members of the committee who has three unexcused absences from monthly meetings will be replaced by another member of their team. Travel for athletic contests, practices, health, and academic commitments are excused absences as long as notification is given to the president or compliance officer.
Article V (Voting)
At least 2/3 of the sports must be present to allow a vote.
All elections and legislation requires a majority (51%) to pass.
Article VI (Elections)
Election of officers will be held as the first meeting in the academic school year.
Candidates can be nominated by a fellow representative or nominate themselves for an office. If there are no nominations the co-presidents will agree on an appointee to be voted on.
Article VII (Officers)
Co-Presidents (one male, one female)
Presides over meetings
Serves as liaison to the institution's department of athletics
Functions as spokesperson for the institution's student-athletes
Enforces Constitution
Secretary
Take and keep attendance
Take and keep minutes
Treasurer
Responsible for keeping written records of any money spent and/or taken in by the SAAC
Article VIII (Amendments)
The constitution may be amended by a two-third's majority vote of teams present as required by Article V Section 1.
