CONWAY, Ark. – The University of Central Arkansas tennis program ended its regular season with a great win at home over a tough Lipscomb team. The Bears will await their destination for the first weekend of the ASUN tournament but sit at 11-9 and evened their ASUN record today at 4-4.
It seemed like the fruits of the Bears' labor finally started to show today, as they took doubles play with relative ease. Nanoka Kazama and Vichitraporn Vimuktananda continue to play well together, this time the freshmen took down the No. 1 pair for Lipscomb of Dobranos and Trbeznik with relative ease. Nicole Ross and Jaeun Lee breezed past Howard and Diachenko for the Bisons to seal the point for UCA. Sumomo Hamanaga and Konomi Miyakawa were well on their way to victory before their match was cut short as UCA had already won the point.
UCA showed a lot of their fight in singles play. Both Miyakawa and Hamanaga fell behind after the first set, and both young players battled back to win in three sets. This was Miyakawa's second win on the weekend, something that the freshman can really take into the postseason.
Another freshman in Kazama fought for a win after falling behind early in the first set, and again in the second set, she was able to fend off Trbeznik to give UCA a crucial early point. Vimuktananda also won in two sets, defeating Lipscomb's No. 2 in Paladi for her second win of the weekend. Ting-An Chen won her match fairly easily as well, which gave UCA an early lead.
UCA now leads Lipscomb 2-0 in the all-time series, winning last year in Nashville and this season in Conway. UCA will wait for its destination and opponent for next weekend's ASUN Tournament. Be sure to check out where the Bears will be playing by going to ucasports.com or on Twitter at @UCATennis.
