Men's Golf Caps ASUN Championship with Season-Best 54-Hole Score

MOBILE, Ala. – The Central Arkansas men's golf team turned in its best three-round score at the ASUN Championships, finalizing play with a 288 to cap off a 54-hole score of 860.

"This week was not how we wanted to end the season, however, we had both our seniors close their careers on a high note," head coach Austin Eoff said of the Championship. "Sam shot his low round of the season in round one and Trey tied his low round of the year and shot all three rounds under par and was the low Bear this week."

Graduate student Trey DePriest led the way with a 6-under 210, finishing play tied for 21st after raising eight spots on Wednesday. He led Central Arkansas with 15 birdies in 54 holes, and all three of his round scores were under par. Luke Sienkiewicz finished with his best round of the event, picking up two birdies to end the day two strokes under par. His final score of 216 came with 42 holes at par, the most of anyone in the tournament.

Nash Johnson completed round three with a score of 73, turning in a final score of 221 at the ASUN Championships. Johnson finished with six birdies, with two in each round. Palmer McSpadden tallied three birdies in the third round, capping a 54-hole score of 223. Sam Long also finished with a 223, with seven birdies across his three rounds.

"As a team we shot our lowest round of the season in round one, we just didn't put two more rounds together with it this week," Eoff added. "But I am excited about the future and where we are headed. We have some talented underclassmen who will only continue to get better this summer."

Liberty held on for the championship, besting North Florida by four strokes after Wednesday's play. Jacksonville rounded out the top-three after supplanting Jacksonville State in the final round. Liberty's Jonathan Yaun took home the individual medal, followed by Jacksonville's Joseph Sullivan and North Florida's Nick Gabrelcik. The Bears, led by DePriest's 21st place finish, were 12th after Wednesday's final round of the ASUN Championship.

"Palmer had his career-best finish back in February in Vegas, and will be a great senior leader next year. Nash has been the most improved player by far this season and I am excited to see him continue on that trajectory," Eoff said of the team's future. "Last but not least, Luke had a solid season for us, leading us in a number of categories, I can't wait to see how his career progresses.

"It has been a busy six week stretch for us, so I know the guys will take some time to regroup, do well on final exams, then all eyes are on summer golf and next school year. Go Bears!"
