JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of Central Arkansas tennis program sees its season come to an end after losing to North Florida, but the Bears did not go down without a fight.
UCA got a crucial doubles point early thanks to the effort of both its older and younger players. Jaeun Lee and Nicole Ross evened things up with a 6-3 win after UNF took the first doubles match. The freshman pairing of Nanoka Kazama and Vichitraporn Vimuktananda sealed the point for the Bears, taking down a nationally ranked doubles pair in Kit Gulihur and Ana Paula Melilo. The tandem improved their doubles record to 9-4 on the season and are sure to be bright spots for the Bears for seasons to come.
Unfortunately for the Bears, they were not able to take advantage of an early point, and UNF pounced early, and the Bears were not able to overcome. Kazama narrowly lost the first set, but she battled back to take the second before her match was cut short due ot the Ospreys taking the match. Ting-An Chen was also close on her match, but her match was likewise cut short due to the UNF victory. Vimuktananda was also narrowly defeated in the first set, however she was unable to come back in the second set and that victory for UNF clinched the match.
The Bears now fall to 0-2 all-time against the Ospreys, joining last season's loss in Jacksonville. UCA wraps the season at 12-10 with a 4-4 ASUN record, with great wins over Lipscomb, EKU, North Alabama, and Kansas City.
