HENDERSON, Nev. – The second day of the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate saw the men's golf team climb one spot in the standings, now in 12
th after 18 more holes.
Palmer McSpadden led the charge, playing the best round of the day at 5-under to move into third place.
McSpadden cruised through the course on Tuesday, playing five birdies and making par on every other hole. It marked the best round of the season for the Bears, whose previous low was a 69. The junior's round propelled him 29 spots in the standings, the second-biggest jump of the day.
Sam Long found three more birdies on his second round, firing a 4-over 76. He brought his birdie count to eight after two rounds, placing second on the team in birdies through 36 holes.
Luke Sienkiewicz shot a 5-over 77, tallying a two-day score of 150. The freshman added three birdies to his scorebook in round two.
Nash Johnson also had a good second day, firing a 2-over 74 with five birdies. The 74 helped him jump 18 spots in the standings, posting a 155 after 36 holes.
Dominic Barron Holden tallied an 8-over 80 on day two, recovering after a tough start to cap the round at 1-over on the back nine.
McSpadden trails the leader by just two strokes, with New Mexico State's Aidan Thomas moving into first place. Owen Stamper, from Middle Tennessee State, is currently in second, with four golfers tied for third place with one round left. Little Rock jumped into first place as a team, followed closely by New Mexico State. Long Beach State fell out of first, settling at third after the second day.
The Bears will play one more round of the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate on Wednesday, wrapping up the team's first event of the spring semester.
