TENNIS CONTINUES ITS HOT START WITH A PERFECT WEEK ONE IN THE ASUN

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - The University of Central Arkansas tennis program continued to thrive as they finished their first week in the ASUN 2-0.

It was another solid outing for the Bears as they took their road trip to Jacksonville, Ala., where they continued to start their inaugural ASUN season hot with a 5-2 victory. It was a story that has been told throughout this season and all of last as UCA went into the Gamecocks home court and started the route off with a victory in doubles play. After that, four Bears kept their ASUN undefeated streak alive as junior Fuka Nonoyama, freshman Sumomo Hamanaga, sophomore Maja Gledic and junior Mei Ishimura all claimed victories.

Quote from Casey Wharton:
"It is exciting to be starting our conference matches.  We have been getting ready for these matches all year, and we are as ready as we can be. It's tough having our first 3 conference matches on the road, but the team has handled that well.
Today we played Jacksonville State and they are good.  The wind was blowing hard and steady and that is not something
We have seen so far this year.  It can be mentally draining when you are adjusting to the wind, because the game plan you have for one side, isn't the same game plan for the other side, and in tennis we switch sides every two games.  Despite the wind, the team made adjustments and overall played really well, and came away with another win."
