SUGAR BEARS EXTEND STREAK TO SEVEN WITH 5-2 WIN

Conway – The Central Arkansas women's tennis closed out a four match home stand on Saturday morning, hosting the Incarnate Word Cardinals at the UCA Tennis Courts. The Sugar Bears extended their winning streak to seven straight on the day, taking down the Cardinals 5-2.

Central Arkansas (8-2, 2-0 SLC) wasted little time in taking control of the match, sweeping the doubles contests to secure the point. Pornpawee Pramethong and Marli Van Heerden opened things up for the Sugar Bears at the number one position, defeating Metea Zemunik and Victoria Karey 6-0 for their fifth straight win, before Amiru Shimoguchi and Chunan Xiang locked up the point with a 6-3 win, their fifth of the year, over Rachel Sadiq and Sara Djurdjevic in the number two slot. QiLi Ma and Rada Manataweewat finished off the sweep, taking the number three match 6-3 over Jelena Dordan and Alejandra Tamayo to move to 8-1 on the year.

The Sugar Bears would storm out of the gates in the singles competition, winning each of the first three matches to lock up the win. Shimoguchi kicked things off with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Alejandra Landaluce in the number five slot, pushing her own winning streak to six, while Hee-Jin Oh also picked up her sixth-straight win at the number three position by taking out Kareh 6-4, 6-0. Rada Manataweewat put the Sugar Bears up 4-0 on the day, taking her contest against Tomayo at the number six position to improve to 4-1 on the year. Dordan put the Cardinals on the board with a 1-6, 6-3, 6-0 win over Xiang at the number two slot, but Pramethong got the point back for UCA with a  4-6, 7-5, 10-8 win over Zemunik in the number one match. The final contest, at the number four slot, saw UIW's Djurdjevic earn a 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 win over Ma.

The Sugar Bears will play their next three matches on the road, beginning with a trip to San Antonio, Texas to take on UT-San Antonio next Saturday.
