SUGAR BEARS EXTEND STREAK TO FIVE WITH SWEEP OF SIUE

North Little Rock – The Central Arkansas Sugar Bears returned to the warmth of the Burns Park Indoor Tennis Complex on Sunday morning, welcoming the Southern Illinois-Edwardsville Cougars for a non-conference tune-up. Central Arkansas controlled the action on the court, dropping just one set on while rolling to 7-0 win, the Sugar Bears' fourth sweep in eight matches this season.

Central Arkansas (6-2) continued its early-season habit of grabbing the doubles point, winning all three matches to take a 1-0 lead. QiLi Ma and Rada Manataweewat improved to 6-1 on the year with a 6-0 sweep of Anna Talley and Angel Ikeda in the number three match, while Chunan Xiang and Hee-Jin Oh partnered for the first time this season and picked up a win at the number two slot, taking out Raillane Kamdem and Katherine Lahue 6-0. Pornpawee Pramethong and Marli Van Heerden closed out the doubles sweep at the number slot, edging out Ann-Christine Link and Lara Tupper 7-5 to move to 4-3 on the season.

Van Heerden added to the lead in singles play, opening things up with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Talley in the number five match to push her record to 6-0, before Manataweewat picked up her third solo win with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Ikeda in the number six contest. Pramethong would extend UCA's lead to 4-0, taking down Tupper 6-4, 6-3 in the number one spot, while Ma scored a 6-0, 6-1 win over Lahue in the number four match, before Xiang added 7-5, 6-3 victory over Link at the number two position to push her season record to 4-3. Oh closed things out for the Sugar Bears in the number three match, defeating Kamdem 4-6, 6-4, 10-1 to lock up the sweep and improve to 5-2 on the season.

Central Arkansas opens Southland Conference play on the road next Sunday, traveling to Abilene, Texas to take on the Abilene Christian Wildcats at 11:00 AM. The Sugar Bears will then return home for a pair of matches on Sunday, April 10th, facing SLC foe Incarnate Word at 9:00 AM before battling in-state opponent Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 4:00 PM.
