ANGLES NAMED ALL-AMERICAN SCHOLAR


    CONWAY, Ark. _ Former University of Central Arkansas golfer Pep Angles was named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon Division I All-America Scholar this week.

    Angles, a three-time Southland Conference Player of the Year, was one of 206 players in NCAA Division I to be selected. To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50 percent ofhis team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2.

    Angles, the SLC Men's Golf Student-Athlete of the Year the past two years, qualified for two consecutive NCAA Regionals. Angles had a 3.51 grade-point average in management information systems for his career. 

        Angles, from Barcelona, Spain, is a four-time All-Conference selection. He averaged 71.26 strokes in 31 rounds of play last season and captured one individual medalist honor. In 11 tournaments, Angles finished in the Top 10 a league-high nine times, including an individual victory at the UMKC Bill Ross Intercollegiate in October.

    Angles had six finishes in the Top 3, including a runnerup finish at the 2015 SLC Championship, where he posted a tournament-low round of 3-under 69 in the second round. Angles was also named to his second consecutive Palmer Cup team, representing Europe. He was the captain's pick of European captain Jean Van de Velde of France.
