ANGLES EARNS THIRD STRAIGHT SLC GOLFER OF YEAR HONOR

CONWAY, Ark. – University of Central Arkansas golfer Pep Angles accomplished something only one other golfer has done in Southland Conference history on Monday when he was named the SLC Men's Golfer of the Year for a third consecutive time.

Angles, from Barcelona, Spain, was the SLC Men's Golfer of the Year and SLC Men's Golf Student-Athlete of the Year in both 2013 and 2014. The last player to earn the golfer of the year three times in a career was Lamar's Chris Stroud from 2001-04.

Angles is a four-time All-Conference selection. He averaged 71.26 strokes in 31 rounds of play this season and captured one individual medalist honor. In 11 tournaments, Angles finished in the Top 10 a league-high nine times, including an individual victory at the UMKC Bill Ross Intercollegiate in October.

Angles had six finishes in the Top 3, including a runnerup finish at the 2015 SLC Championship, where he posted a tournament-low round of 3-under 69 in the second round. Angles was also named last week to his second consecutive Palmer Cup team, representing Europe. He was the captain's pick of European captain Jean Van de Velde of France.

Angles will compete as part of the 10-member European squad that will face the American team on June 12-14 at Rich Harvest Farms near Sugar Grove, Ill. Angles was a member of last year's victorious European team that won at Walton-On-The-Hill, England.

Angles, who shot nine rounds in the 60s this season, with a low of 66, and has also qualified for the past two NCAA Regionals as an individual. The 2015 NCAA field will be announced on May 4 at 9 a.m. on the Golf Channel.
