CONWAY, Ark. _ University of Central Arkansas' Mark Moyer was named the Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday after picking up a pair of victories on the mound for the Bears last week.
Moyer, a redshirt freshman from Russellville who missed last season with an arm injury. pitched the final six inninings of relief in UCA's 5-4, 12-inning victory over Southeast Missouri last Tuesday. He then drew the start in the Bears' rubber game against SLC foe New Orleans on Sunday at Bear Stadium and secured the series victory with a seven-inning, run-rule shutout in a 10-0 victory. Against the Privateers, one of the top hitting teams in the conference, Moyer allowed just five singles in the complete-game victory.
For the week, Moyer tossed 13 innings, allowing just nine hits and one run, striking out seven and walking two. His earned-run average for the week was 0.69 as he helped the Bears to a 4-1 record last week. Moyer has a 2-1 record on the season.
The Bears host Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 6 p.m. Tuesday and return to SLC play this weekend at Northwestern State in Natchitoches, La.
