JONESBORO, Ark. – The UCA indoor track and field teams resumed their 2012 season this afternoon, competing in the ASU Invitational. Student-athletes from UCA competed in nine different events today, including the completion of the women’s pentathlon.
Jasmine Ellis and Megan Snow each recorded a top-five finish in today’s pentathlon. Ellis had the second best mark in the high jump (1.59 m) and the 55 meter hurdles (8.44), was sixth in the long jump (4.91 m), fifth in the shot put (10.24 m), and 12
th in the 8,000 meter run (2:49.68). It gave her a total of 3,195 points which was good enough for third-place.
Snow earned 3,152 total points and finished just behind Ellis in fourth. Snow was third in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.53 and performed strong in all the field events, helping her to the top-five finish. Snow’s effort of 5.13 meters in the long jump and her shot put throw of 11.18 meters were each the third best marks in those events. She was also sixth in high jump, clearing a mark of 1.56 meters.
Also competing in the 8,000 meter run as part of the pentathlon was April Martin, who finished first in the event with a time of 2:26.42. Martin finished 10
th overall in the pentathlon.
Mariah Georgetown (3,656 points) and Kayla Fontenot (3,237 points) both of McNeese State, finished first and second, respectively, in the pentathlon.
The men competed in just two events this afternoon, the long jump and the pole vault. Daniel Reese finished tied for fourth in pole vault, recording a clearance of 4.75 meters. UCA’s top-finisher in the long jump was Jaron Criswell. His 6.98 meter jump was good enough for a fourth-place finish.
Day two of the ASU Invitational will get underway tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. Finals of all running events are scheduled to be held at 2 p.m.
