UCA DOMINATES HENDRIX INVITE

Senior Jasmine Coleman won the 400 meters
CONWAY, Ark. - The University of Central Arkansas track and field teams combined to win 19 events at the Hendrix Invitational and Distance Carnival on Saturday. The Bears and Sugar Bears also broke four school records and qualified 13 for May's Southland Conference Outdoor Championships in Natchitoches, La.

Sophomore Tasha Bryles won the shot put and broke a 24-year old school record with a throw of 12.45 meters (40 ft.-10.25 in.). Her mark was 3.25 inches better than UCA Hall of Famer Gail Striegler's record set in 1987. Sophomore Mackenzie Johnson also qualified for the SLC in the shot put, placing second at 11.75 meters (38 ft.-6.75 in.). Johnson also qualified in the hammer throw with a school record winning distance of 40.67 meters (133 ft.-5 in.). Freshman Brittany Briswalter finished first in the discus at 35.15 meters (115 ft.-4 in.), adding her name to the SLC qualifiers.

Sophomore Jasmine Ellis broke the school record and finished first in the long jump at 5.51 meters (18 ft.-1 in.). She also took second in the javelin with a throw of 31.27 meters (102 ft.-7 in.). Sophomore Jessica Potter won the high jump at 1.52 meters (4 ft.-11.75 in.).

Sophomore Courtney Efurd qualified and won the 1,500 meters in 4:49.41. The Rogers, Ark. native also placed second in the 800 meters in 2:21.07. Senior Jasmine Coleman won the 400 meter dash in 1:02.24 and freshman Tanesha Maxwell placed second in the 200 meters in 25.59 seconds.

Coleman, Maxwell, Jordan Chadwick and Jasmine Johnson finished third in the 4x100 meter relay in 1:01.12.

For the Bears, Sohji Izumi broke his own school record with a SLC qualifying javelin toss of 59.11 meters (193 ft.-11 in.). Junior Derrick Steele won the long jump at 6.74 meters (22 ft.-1.5 in.) and junior Bobby Washington won the high jump at 2.03 meters, both qualifying distances.

Sage Raphael won the 400 meters with a qualifying mark of 48.48 seconds. Amos Gerber qualified and won the 5,000 meters in 15:28.15. Junior Demarcus Harrison and freshman Trevor Peacock took the top two spots in the 400 meter hurdles, running in 53.46 seconds and 54.97 seconds, respectively.

Other winners for the Bears included: Jeremy Stuckey in the 100 meter dash (11.25 sec.), Phillip Boles in the 200 meters (22.15)and Michael Allen in the 800 meters (1:57.47) and 1,500 meters (4:11.79).

Harrison, Raphael, Peacock and Ananias Hudson won the 4x400 meter relay in 3:17.71. Boles, Stuckey, Josh Epps and Ben Barker placed second in the 4x100 relay in 42.13 seconds. Sophomore Jake Goode finished fourth in the discus with a mark of 31.81 meters (104 ft.-4 in.).

UCA will be back in action on March 19 at the Rhodes Invitational in Memphis.
