Men Fall to Bradley in Final Conference Game

CONWAY, ARK. — On Senior Day, the University of Central Arkansas Men’s Soccer team (2-10-4, 1-3-2 MVC) fell just short of picking up a win to make the day even more memorable. Before the match began, the program took a minute to honor this season’s Senior class: Joseph Cervantes, Andrew O’Brien, Damon Hymas, and Jordan Prescott. The four seniors honored today have played an important part in the development of the Men’s Soccer program in Conway, helping in the transition to Division-1. The Bears were looking to end their conference season against a Bradley (12-4-2, 6-2-0 MVC) team that has been receiving votes in the polls nearly all season.

The game was a defensive-minded one, as evidenced by the 0-0 halftime score. It appeared that Central Arkansas has broken the deadlock 15 seconds in to the second half, as half-time sub Ethan Miller streaked through the Brave defense and fired a shot on goal that was stopped by the goal keeper. The lone goal of the game was scored not long after, as Bryan Gaul took a cross from Jason Coon and rifled it into the back of the net for his 10th goal of the season. Neither team was able to hit the net for the course of the game.

Central Arkansas was only able to attempt 5 shots during the game, managing to make 3 of them on goal. Sergio Campbell, Stephen Williams, and Ethan Miller were responsible for the shots on goal. Bradley was a bit more effective offensively, attempting 10 shots, though they only got 3 on goal. The Braves were paced by Christian Meza, who took 6 shots, 2 of which were on goal.

In goal for the Bears, Patxi Shortsleeve faced 3 shots, and was able to make 2 saves. For the Braves, Brian Billings stopped all 3 shots that he faced.

The Bears look to close the regular season on an up note tomorrow, hosting the Western Illinois Leathernecks (10-6-1, 4-2-0 Summit). After that, the Bears travel to Omaha, Nebraska to participate in their first-ever Missouri Valley Conference Championship Tournament.
