MURRAY, Ky. _ Junior Emma Svensson earned medalist honors and led the University of Central Arkansas women's golf team to the championship of the weather-shortened Murray State Jan Weaver Invitational on Saturday at Miller Memorial Golf Course.

    The third round of the event scheduled for Saturday was canceled because of snow and cold temperatures.

    Svensson shot rounds of 73-70 for a 1-under 143 and won by two strokes over Murray State's Moa Folke. UCA won the 14-team ournament by a whopping 13 strokes after shooting 293-291_584. The beat host Murray State by 13 and third-place Austin Peay by another stroke. UCA had four golfers finish in the Top 5 overall.

    Senior Fernanda Lira tied for third place after 70-77_147, while freshman Geraldine Wong (76-72_148) and freshman Tasha Ainsley-Thomas (74-74_148) tied for fifth overall. Freshman Brett Permann tied for 20th (76-75_151) and junior Sally Fridstrom, playing as an individual, is for 60th (84-78_162).

    UCA was followed by Murray State (597), Austin Peay (598), UL-Monroe (602), Arkansas State (603), Bradley (606), Jacksonville State (607), Belmont (609), Southern Illinois (614), Tennessee Tech (630), Alabama State (657), Lipscomb (660), Drury (666) and Tennessee State (678).

    The tournament was UCA's final tuneup before the Southland Conference Championships on April 16-18 at Woodforest Golf Club in Montgomery, Texas.
