HAMILTON SECOND IN 1,000 METERS AT SAMFORD


    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. _ The University of Central Arkansas men's and women's track teams combined for eight Top 5 finishes on Friday and Saturday in the Samford University January Indoor Open meet at the CrossPlex.

    Sophomore Ajah Criner had two of those top five finishes, getting second in the 60 meters in a time of 7.66, and finishing fourth in the 200 meters in 25.38. Junior Logan Morton finished fifth in the long jump with a jump of 17-05.25 and was seventh in the high jump with a leap of 5-03.

    Freshman Teshuna Sheppard finished sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 36-11.25, while Morton came in eighth (36-04.15). In the 800 meters, Freshman Jordan Brock finished eighth (2:20.75). UCA's 1,600-meter relay team was eighth in 4:09.53.

    On the men's side, sophomore Jared Hamilton finished second in the 1,000 meters in a time of 2:33.13, while sophomore Zachary Jewell got fifth in the 200 meters (22.11) and fifth in the 60 meters (6.88 in finals, 6.86 in prelims). Jewell was also eighth in the long jump (21-11.75).

    Senior Eric Moore finished fifth in the high jump at 6-08.75. Freshman Jordan Atkins fnished fifth in the 60 meter hurdles in 8.47, while junior Markus Schweikert was eighth in the 3,000 meters (8:58.02). UCA's 1,600-meter relay squad finished ninth in 3:29.12 and senior Daniel Lawson got 10th in the 400 meters (49.35).

    UCA's squads compete next on Jan. 27 in Pittsburg, Kan.
