UCA MEN THIRD, WOMEN SEVENTH AT SIU DENOON INVITE


    CARBONDALE, Ill.  _ The University of Central Arkansas men finished third and the women seventh on Saturday at the SIU Don DeNoon Invite indoor meet at the SIU Recreation Center.

    UCA's men scored 53 points, trailing only host SIU and Memphis. UCA's women scored 19.2 points to finish seventh.

    On the men's side, freshman Zachary Jewell of Mena broke his own school record in the 60 meters with a time of 6.83 seconds, finishing second. Jewell also won the long jump with a leap of 7.16 meters (23-6). Senior James Lassiter won the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.27. Freshman Marcel Keeton was third in 8.36, after running an 8.26 in the prelims. 

    Junior Eric Moore finished fifth in the high jump at 2.06 meters (6-9) and Lassiter was sixth in the 200 meters (22.93). Jaron Hamilton finished seventh in the 3,000 meters (8:43.26) and UCA's 4x400 relay team of Daniel Lawson, Sharad Mackey, Marcus Johnson and Nakita Higgins finished sixth (3:29.73).

    For the UCA women, freshman Olivia Groeber equaled her school record in the pole vault with a height of  3.73 meters (12-2.75 feet) to finish sixth.  Sophomore Hannah Noble finished second in the high jump with a jump of 1.61 meters (5-3.75 feet), with Samantha Gibson and Brooke Wright tied for fifth (1.56 meters).

    Freshman Ajah Criner finished fifth in the 60 meters in 7.82 and Gibson was fifth in the 60-meter hurdles at 9.31. Sophia Ramirez finished fifth in the triple jump at 11.23 meters (36-10.75 feet). UCA's 4x400 relay team of Victoria Campfield, SheBria Byrd, Jasmine Richard and Samantha Ellis finished sixth in 4:10.19.
