BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of Central Arkansas men's and women's track teams finished first and second, respectively, on Sunday at the Emory Crossplex Invitational at the Birmingham Crossplex.
UCA's men's squad won the title with 82 points over 21 other teams while the women's squad finished as runnerup with 85 points in a field of 23 teams. UCA recorded 27 Top 8 finishes, set three school records and one meet record.
On the men's side, the Bears swept the relay events, winning the 4x400 relay in a time of 3:21.49 and the distance medley relay in a time of 10:34.13. Junior Eric Moore won the high jump with a height of 6 feet, 8.75 inches.
Sharad Mackey finished fourth in the 200 meters in a school-record time (21.81) and fifth in the 60 meters (6.97), the second-best time in school history. Alex Hanson took first in the 800 meters in a time of 1:54.04, the sixth-best time in school history. Zackary Jewell was third in the 60 meters, setting a school record with a 6.91 time. He also finished third in the long jump (23-01.25).
Other Top 10 finishes included Marcel Keeton in the 60 meter hurdles with a third-place finish (8.33) and James Lassiter in fourth (8.34), while Takudzwa Muchichwa was sixth in the high jump (6-04.75). Daniel Lawson was sixth in the 400 meters (49.50). Alonzo Pollum finished seventh in the 3,000 meters (8:57.53).
On the women's side, the Sugar Bears swept the top two spots in the pole vault with Olivia Groeber winning at 12-02 (breaking her own school record), followed by Sara Calhoun at 11-09. Both heights were meet records. UCA's distance medley team finished second (13:07.60) and the 4x400 team finished third (4:00.56). Logan Morton finished second in the long jump with a jump of 18-00.05, with Hadley Swanson fifth at 17-06.
Taylor Dunn finished fifth in the 3,000 meters (10:40.70), while Samantha Gibson finished fifth in both the 800 meters (2:19.85) and the 60-meter hurdles (9.22). Hannah Noble was third in the high jump (5-03.75) and Juliet McDonald was fifth (5-01.75). Sophia Ramirez finished sixth in the triple jump (36-09) and Morton was eighth (36-03.50).
Next up for UCA is the Kansas Jayhawk Classic next weekend.
