CONWAY — Central Arkansas has increased its 2013-14 women's basketball signing class to five members, adding 5-foot-10 forward Alexis Hardaway from Austin Peay State University on Thursday.
Hardaway, who played in 24 games for the Lady Govs this season, will have two years of eligibility remaining after sitting out the upcoming season due to NCAA transfer rules.
"We are excited to be adding Alexis," said UCA head coach Sandra Rushing. "She comes from a high school program where she won four state championships and she has two years of Division I experience and knowledge – which will be valuable to our program even though she will not be eligible to play next season. With all of these qualities Alexis is a true asset to the Sugar Bear program."
Hardaway started 28 games over the last two seasons at Austin Peay, averaging 5.3 points and 4.9 rebounds per game as a freshman and 4.7 points and 4.4 rebounds per game overall. She had highs of 12 points and 15 rebounds with the Lady Govs and shot 48.7 percent from the field last season. She had her best game at Southern Illinois on November 12, getting 10 points and 10 rebounds.
In Austin Peay's 81-60 win over the Sugar Bears this season, Hardaway started and had 7 points,6 rebounds and 4 assists in 28 minutes.
Hardaway won four state championships at H.W. Byers High School in Mississippi, and was the state championship game MVP in both 2011 and 2012. She was also the salutatorian of her graduating class.
She joins a UCA recruiting class that also includes guards Olivia McWilliams (Little Rock/eStem HS), Angel Williams (Bellaire, Texas/Bellaire HS) and Kendara Watts (Fairfield, Ala./Shelton State CC) and forward Shanta Echols (Sumrall, Miss./Pearl River CC).
