Conway – The Central Arkansas men's soccer team was back in action at the Bill Stephens Soccer Complex on Saturday afternoon, hosting Missouri Valley Conference opponent SIU-Edwardsville. The Cougars came out on top, taking down the Bears 3-1.
After both teams were unable to find the net in the first half, the Cougars (3-6-2, 3-0 MVC) broke the drought in the 60
th minute, as Matt Polster fed a cross to Jabari Danzy who headed the ball home for his first goal of the season. SIUE added another goal in the 73
rd minute as Garet Christianson won a 50-50 ball and put it away from 25 yards out.
Central Arkansas (2-8, 0-3 MVC) cut the lead in half in the 82
nd minute, when
Logan Miller lined up for a penalty kick. SUIE keeper Kent Kobernus made the initial save, but
Alejandro Moquete crashed in on the rebound, hammering it home from five yards out for his first goal of the season.
SIUE responded just 36 seconds later, as Danzy headed home his second goal of the day to put the Cougars up 3-1.
SIUE held a 10-9 advantage in shots on the day, led by Christian Volesky, who was on target with three of his four attempts. Danzy and Christianson had the other three shots on goal for the Cougars. Moquete, Miller, and
William Woody each had a shot on goal for the Bears.
Central Arkansas is on the road this week for a pair of games. The Bears travel to Dallas, Texas on Wednesday night to take on SMU at 7:00 PM. On Saturday, Central Arkansas returns to MVC play, battling Bradley at 7:00 PM.
