FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.- The University of Central Arkansas women's cross country team finished 34th out of 56 teams and the men's squad was 38th of 50 at the 2010 Chile Pepper Festival on Saturday.
Sophomore Tony Stewart paced the Bears with a 32:43.78 time, placing 178th. The England, Ark. native's time was the second best 10K mark in school history. Freshman Michael Allen had UCA's fourth best 10K time at 32:47.02, placing 186th. Freshman Amos Gerber (245th, 33:27.21), freshman Jeremiah Fleeman (250th, 33:32.70) and sophomore Brad Kintner (347th, 34:38.29) rounded out the scoring for the Bears.
Sophomore Courtney Efurd led the Sugar Bears with a 5K time of 19:09.00, good for 140th place. Freshman Erika Setzler was 150th in 19:14.28 and freshman Kayla Nehus was 161st in 19:20.50. Sophomore Elizabeth Craig (229th, 19:46.82) and sophomore Sabrina Peterman (233rd, 19:50.12) rounded out the scoring for UCA.
Both teams will run in the Southland Conference Championships in Beaumont, Texas on October 28.
