CONWAY —  With the University of Central Arkansas’ reclassification period to NCAA Division I a thing of the past, the school’s athletics programs all enter their respective seasons knowing they now have a chance at post-season play. That element alone brings added meaning to the upcoming season. For the UCA men’s soccer team, there’s also one other small difference this year.   The Bears have a conference.

CONWAY — The University of Central Arkansas women’s soccer team will host its 2010 home opener at 2 p.m. Wednesday when the Bears take on UALR at the Bill Stephens Track/Soccer Complex.   The Bears (1-1) enter the game coming off a 6-0 victory over Alcorn State in Lorman, Miss. last week. The Trojans come into the game with an 0-3 record, having suffered losses to Oral Roberts, Tulsa and Missouri State to start the season.

NORMAN, Okla.- The University of Central Arkansas volleyball team will travel to Norman for a match with the Oklahoma Sooners on Wednesday night. The Sugar Bears (3-1) will look to avenge last year's four-set loss to OU (2-1). The Sooners received votes this week's AVCA Top 25 poll, and starts a run of tough opponents for UCA. Six of the Sugar Bears' next eight opponents finished last season ranked in the NCAA RPI top 75.

FRISCO, Texas- University of Central Arkansas junior outside hitter Jessica Hays was named the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. Hays, of Friendswood, Texas, guided the Sugar Bears to a 3-1 record at the season-opening UniWyo Wyoming Invite by averaging 4.62 kills per set. She connected on 60 kills in the four matches and also served up 12 aces and had 38 digs. She was named to the all-tournament team for her efforts. Hays recorded two double-doubles over the weekend and tied her career high with 22 kills in the win over Southern Utah. She also set a career best with six aces against Wyoming.

LARAMIE, Wyo.- Junior outside hitter Jessica Hays and sophomore middle blocker Taylor Hammonds both had career matches to lead the University of Central Arkansas volleyball team to a four-set victory over Southern Utah in the final match of the UniWyo Wyoming Invite. Hays tied her career best with 22 kills to go with three aces and seven digs, while Hammonds pounded out a career-high 17 kills and hit .406 as the Sugar Bears (3-1) defeated the Thunderbirds (2-2) 25-13, 20-25, 27-25, 25-19.
